Pet CBD Has Changed Dramatically Since We Started Selling It
When we first introduced CBD products that customers were using for their dogs and cats, it was a very different market to the one we see today.
Back then, pet owners usually found us because they’d already spent hours researching CBD. They’d read scientific papers, spoken to other owners and, in many cases, discussed it with their own vet before making a decision. There weren’t dozens of companies advertising pet CBD products, and finding reliable information wasn’t particularly easy.
Fast forward to today and the picture has changed completely.
Search online and you’ll find countless products claiming to be the best choice for dogs, cats and other pets. Some look professional, some look rather questionable, and many seem to promise exactly the same thing. On the surface, that sounds like good news because consumers have more choice than ever before.
In reality, we think it’s made buying Pet CBD considerably more confusing.
The challenge today isn’t finding a product.
It’s knowing which companies genuinely understand the industry and which ones have simply spotted a growing market.
More Choice Doesn’t Always Make Buying Easier
Most of us assume that more competition benefits customers.
Usually, that’s true.
Better products appear.
Prices become more competitive.
Companies work harder to improve customer service.
The CBD industry has certainly seen some of those improvements over the years.
At the same time, however, we’ve noticed something else.
The amount of conflicting information available to pet owners has increased dramatically.
One website tells you one thing.
Another tells you something completely different.
Some articles appear to have been written by people who have never handled a CBD product in their lives.
Others simply repeat information copied from elsewhere.
It’s hardly surprising that many pet owners finish their research feeling even less certain than when they started.
One Question We Hear Again and Again
If there’s one question that has remained consistent over the years, it’s this:
“How do I know I’m buying a good quality product?”
It’s a sensible question because quality isn’t something you can judge from a photograph.
A smart label tells you very little.
An expensive website tells you very little.
Even a high price doesn’t necessarily tell you very much.
Instead, we think buyers should start by looking at the company itself.
Does it explain its products properly?
Does it provide clear information about ingredients?
Can you understand exactly what you’re buying before you reach the checkout?
Those things often tell you far more than another “premium quality” badge ever could.
Human Grade Matters More Than Many People Realise
One area that doesn’t receive enough attention is ingredient quality.
Most people understandably focus on the CBD itself.
That’s important.
But it isn’t the only ingredient inside the bottle.
At CBD-UK we’ve always chosen to produce human-grade CBD oils rather than lower-grade alternatives.
The same applies to our carrier oil.
We use human-grade salmon oil, not because it sounds impressive, but because we believe ingredient quality should remain high throughout the entire product.
People sometimes assume that because a product may be given to a dog or cat, lower-quality ingredients somehow become acceptable.
We’ve never agreed with that way of thinking.
If anything, we believe the opposite.
When people are buying something they intend to give to a much-loved family pet, quality should become even more important.
The Regulatory Position Can Be Confusing
One of the reasons the pet CBD market causes so much confusion is that the regulatory position isn’t always well understood.
Many owners don’t realise there’s an important distinction between CBD products manufactured as human food supplements and veterinary medicines.
That’s why it’s worth spending a little time understanding exactly what you’re buying instead of relying solely on how a product is marketed.
Good companies should explain their products clearly rather than assuming customers already understand the regulations.
If something isn’t obvious, ask.
A reputable business should be perfectly happy to explain the difference.
One Thing We Never Compromise On
People often ask what separates one CBD company from another.
There isn’t one single answer.
Every business has its own priorities.
For us, one principle has remained the same from the beginning.
Don’t cut corners.
That sounds obvious, but it’s surprisingly easy to do.
Cheaper ingredients exist.
Cheaper packaging exists.
Cheaper manufacturing options exist.
The challenge isn’t finding ways to reduce costs.
The challenge is deciding where you refuse to compromise.
Every business draws that line somewhere.
Ours has always been around product quality.
THC Is a Conversation Every Pet Owner Should Have
Another area that deserves far more attention is THC.
Many people know that CBD and THC both come from cannabis.
Fewer understand that they are very different compounds.
Dogs and cats are much more sensitive to THC than people, and THC exposure can be harmful to pets.
For that reason, pet owners should understand exactly what they’re buying and ensure any CBD product they choose is appropriate for its intended use.
If there’s any uncertainty, speak to your veterinary professional before introducing a new supplement.
Clear information and transparency matter enormously here.
Companies shouldn’t assume customers already know the difference.
Experience Is Difficult to Replace
One advantage of being in any industry for a long time is perspective.
You see trends come and go.
You watch customer questions change.
You learn where confusion usually begins.
Looking back, one thing stands out more than anything else.
Today’s customers ask much better questions than they did several years ago.
They’re interested in ingredients.
Testing.
Manufacturing standards.
Carrier oils.
Company reputation.
That’s encouraging.
It pushes responsible businesses to improve and helps raise standards across the industry.
Not Every Website Tells the Whole Story
One mistake we think many people make is judging companies almost entirely by their homepage.
The homepage is designed to make a good first impression.
Digging a little deeper is often much more revealing.
Read the product descriptions.
Look at the ingredients.
Visit the FAQs.
See whether the business explains things clearly or simply repeats marketing slogans.
The extra five minutes you spend doing that may prove far more valuable than comparing prices alone.
Buying for a Pet Feels Different
Anyone who has owned a dog or cat will probably recognise this.
We often spend more time researching products for our pets than we do for ourselves.
Perhaps that’s because they can’t tell us what they’re thinking.
We want reassurance.
We want confidence.
We want to feel we’ve made a sensible decision.
That’s completely understandable.
It also means companies have a responsibility to provide information that genuinely helps owners make informed choices rather than relying on exaggerated marketing.
Why Transparency Still Wins
The CBD industry will almost certainly continue growing over the next few years.
New businesses will appear.
New products will launch.
Competition will become even stronger.
We actually think that’s healthy.
Competition encourages innovation and gives customers more choice.
At the same time, it makes transparency even more important.
The businesses that continue earning trust won’t necessarily be the ones shouting the loudest.
They’ll be the ones explaining their products honestly, maintaining high standards and respecting the fact that pet owners simply want clear, reliable information before making a decision.
In our experience, that’s what people remember long after the bottle itself has been used.
Products come and go.
Trust tends to last much longer.
